Day 3 - Advent Observances

by Church Staff on December 04, 2024

Welcome! Thanks for joining us in our 2024 Advent Observances. These short daily thoughts are designed for us to sit (if possible in a quiet place), be still, be present to the Lord and ourselves for thought and prayer.

Day 3

Advent literally means arrival.

Isaiah 9:6 is a beautiful, well known prophecy of Jesus’ birth. And yet there would be a wait of nearly 600 years from the time the prophecy was written, to the time Jesus actually arrived on earth. What an incredible example of the faithfulness of God to His Word. What a challenging example of what it means to wait for an arrival.

In this prophecy, the character of Jesus, the one to arrive, is revealed through the names He is called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

  • What do you find yourself waiting for this Advent season?
  • How do the names of Jesus, as given in Isaiah 9:6, provide comfort, direction, and hope in your waiting?

CLOSING PRAYER

Let all that I am, wait quietly before God, for my hope is in Him.

In my current situation waiting is not peaceful, so I need the Prince of Peace.
