Welcome! Thanks for joining us in our 2024 Advent Observances. These short daily thoughts are designed for us to sit (if possible in a quiet place), be still, be present to the Lord and ourselves for thought and prayer.
Day 9
Song of Solomon 3:4 says, Scarcely had I passed them when I found him whom my soul loves. I held him, and would not let him go.
Although this is a passage normally reserved for couples, it also captures the longing God has for us and what we need to cultivate for Him. Lovers create space in their heart by spending time remembering past embraces, and looking forward to future opportunities to be reunited.
How do we cultivate a longing in our soul for Jesus? Often in the Old Testament, the Israelites would set up stone monuments at locations where God faithfully met, provided, or saved them. They did this to remember this event and to reflect on it.
Try creating space in your own devotional time to mentally create monuments of remembrances when Jesus did the same for you. Spend time recalling this in your prayer to the Lord, and thanking Him for what he did. Then express your anticipation that Jesus will be faithful to you again in the future. Over time this will create a longing for Jesus.
