Be the Hands and Feet of Jesus this Thanksgiving! Anchor of Hope offers us an incredible opportunity to Compassionately Serve the sailors aboard the USS Cape Saint George, a ship currently undergoing maintenance in Everett. Many of the crew members are not able to leave the ship due to operational commitments and will miss the warmth and fellowship of family Thanksgiving celebrations.
Why This Matters: The Cape has approximately 330 personnel assigned to it as it resides in Everett for maintenance and operational overhauls. These repairs impact the ship’s galley (kitchen and dining area), leaving many of the sailors without access to their usual meals. On Thanksgiving, they’ll be stuck on the ship, far from home, with no traditional holiday meal to look forward to.
This is where we come in. We’re committed to providing these sailors with a home-cooked Thanksgiving meal, showing them the love and care they deserve. We’re especially excited about this opportunity because of your overwhelming generosity at Christmas last year. Thanks to your support, the crew of the USS Cape Saint George was able to enjoy Christmas lunch, dinner, and even lunch the following day! Your kindness truly made a difference in their holiday season. We want to bless them again this year with a special Thanksgiving meal.
Why Get Involved? This is more than just about providing a meal. It’s about demonstrating the love of Jesus to those who serve our country. This Thanksgiving, let's show these men and women that they are seen, cared for, and appreciated. In doing so, we will be living out the call to serve one another with compassion and kindness.
How You Can Help: We’re asking for donations of Thanksgiving food to serve 60-70 sailors who are unable to leave the ship. We’re looking for a variety of dishes to create a complete Thanksgiving feast: turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, green beans, cranberry sauce, rolls, and desserts. If you can cook and donate a dish (or two!), that would be a tremendous blessing!
Then on Thanksgiving morning (November 28th), we’ll gather the food in the Northshore parking lot - time is still to be determined. A Navy vehicle join us and will transport the food to the ship. As you drop off your donations (hot, if appropriate, and ready-to-eat), you’ll have the opportunity to meet some of the Navy personnel who work on the ship.
Thank you for your generosity and for making this Thanksgiving extra special for those who are far from home. Together, we can make a difference for the crew of the USS Cape Saint George and show them God’s love in a tangible way.
Let’s make this Thanksgiving one that they will never forget!
