Callings
Series: Rise
Summary
Brian Ingraham, a longtime Northshore missionary, recounted moving to Scotland 22 years ago with his wife and young family to plant a church. Their first two church plants failed to grow, leaving Brian discouraged and questioning his mission. In 2005, after a day of prayer and reading Acts, he sensed God telling him to focus on building a praying community and to trust in the Spirit’s power rather than his own efforts. This message, confirmed repeatedly by others, became the guiding principle for his ministry, resulting in a culture of persistent prayer and dependence on God. Brian defined a calling as God-given clarity for your next steps and shared examples from his own life, from his teenage years to ministry decisions. He urged believers to say “yes” to God’s call, even when it is risky or unclear, trusting that obedience can lead to significant kingdom impact. Drawing from Acts 13, he highlighted how the Holy Spirit’s call to Barnabas and Saul sparked a mission that spread the gospel widely. Brian reminded listeners that, like Paul, they may never know the full reach of their obedience until much later.
