Faith Perserveres

This sermon from Hebrews 11 emphasizes that biblical faith is more than simply believing God exists—it means living today in light of what God has promised about the future. Faith always acts, as seen in Moses, Rahab, and others who allowed their trust in God to shape their choices and obedience. Faith also dares, choosing to trust God even when obstacles seem impossible, because faith does not deny reality but believes that God is more trustworthy than the circumstances we face. The sermon illustrates this through stories of the Red Sea, Jericho, Abraham and Sarah, and a personal story of God providing food for an unexpectedly large group of people experiencing homelessness.

At the same time, faith does not guarantee the outcome we want, because sometimes God delivers and sometimes He calls us to endure suffering. Hebrews 11 shows that both those who experienced miracles and those who suffered or died were commended for their faith. True faith is therefore not a formula for getting what we want from God, but a confidence in who God is, even when we do not know what He will do. Jesus models this perfectly in Gethsemane, surrendering His will to the Father and trusting Him with the outcome.

The sermon closes by challenging listeners to ask, “What is your faith asking you to do?” We are called to love others, courageously step into the obstacles God places before us, and trust Him with whatever happens next. Ultimately, faith is anchored not in circumstances or outcomes but in Jesus, fixing our eyes on Him and choosing to live like it’s true.
