When It's Time to Build

The message from Nehemiah 2 focuses on the process of discovering what matters to God, seeing what needs to be rebuilt, and taking the next step of obedience. Nehemiah spent weeks praying and preparing before the opportunity came to approach the king, showing that prayer and preparation belong together. When he arrived in Jerusalem, he carefully examined the broken walls and rubble, demonstrating the importance of honestly seeing the broken areas of our own lives and relationships. The message emphasizes that restoration begins when we allow Jesus to show us clearly what needs attention, whether internally through character and spiritual growth or externally through relationships and serving others. Nehemiah then invited the people to join him, and together they began the work even though they did not know all the challenges that lay ahead. Opposition came quickly, but Nehemiah kept his focus on God and trusted Him with the outcome. The encouragement from Zechariah 4 is that God’s work is accomplished not by human strength alone but by His Spirit, and we should not despise small beginnings. The message challenges us to ask Jesus, “What matters most to you?”, “What needs to be rebuilt?”, and “What is my next step?” Ultimately, when Jesus becomes the foundation of our lives, our work becomes part of something much bigger as we join Him in bringing healing, wholeness, and restoration to the world.
