Series: Angels We Have Heard On High
December 21, 2025 | Nick Steinloski
Passage: Luke 2:8-20
Pastor Nick welcomes the congregation to Christmas at Northshore and introduces Luke 2, framing the message around the idea of “news” and how the stories we listen to shape who we become. He reflects on delivering newspapers as a child to contrast today’s fear-driven, anxiety-producing news culture with the good news of Advent. In Luke 2, heaven’s headline is first delivered to shepherds—ordinary, overlooked night-shift workers—showing that God consistently speaks to the lowly and unseen. This mirrors God’s past pattern, such as choosing David the shepherd, and reveals that God draws near to people exactly where they are, not after they become impressive. The angel’s message—“Do not be afraid… good news of great joy for all people”—announces Jesus as Savior, Christ, and Lord, offering hope deep enough to meet humanity’s greatest needs. Unlike modern news that fuels fear, heaven’s news begins with peace and joy rooted in God’s presence with us. The shepherds respond by joyfully sharing what they’ve seen, while Mary responds by quietly treasuring and pondering, showing that both bold proclamation and faithful presence are valid gospel responses. The message challenges listeners to examine which “headline” shapes their lives, to embody the gospel through daily actions, and to intentionally share hope with others during the Advent season.
