Becoming the Body: Vision Cultures

Series: Vision Series - September 2025

September 07, 2025 | Scott Harris

Pastor Scott teaches that God’s desire is for every believer to grow into spiritual maturity rather than remain the same. Hebrews 6:1 and Ephesians 4:11–16 show that God provides leaders and a community to nurture believers into maturity so they are no longer “infants tossed by the waves,” but instead firmly rooted in Christ. Growth happens within culture, and culture itself is never neutral—it will either shape us into who God designed us to be or diminish us into something less. Unlike physical growth, which happens naturally over time, spiritual growth requires intentionality, desire, and obedience. Simply attending church does not guarantee growth, and without intentional pursuit, people can remain spiritually stunted. Pastor Scott highlights the importance of desiring growth, as 1 Peter 2:2 calls believers to “long for pure spiritual milk.” Spiritual growth begins with a new birth, as Jesus told Nicodemus in John 3, where we move from spiritual death to life in Christ. Just like infants need attentive care, new believers need guidance, nurture, and patience from others to take their first steps in faith. Spiritual growth moves through phases—infant, child, adolescent, and adult—each requiring transformation and obedience to God’s call. Ultimately, God wants His people to grow together, building one another up in love as each part does its work.
