Fill Your Bucket

Series: Financial Freedom That Lasts

October 19, 2025 | Nick Steinloski

Passage: 2 Corinthians 9:6-11

Pastor Nick opened his message from 2 Corinthians 9 by using the familiar folk song “There’s a Hole in My Bucket” to illustrate how everyone has financial “buckets” — things like mortgages, rent, braces, vacations, or coffee habits — that constantly need refilling. He explained that while these buckets aren’t bad, they all leak, and no matter how much we pour into them, they never stay full for long. Our culture teaches that financial freedom comes from finally filling these buckets completely, but Scripture shows a different truth. In God’s economy, freedom doesn’t come from how much we keep but from what flows through us. Pastor Nick emphasized that the real question isn’t “How full is my bucket?” but “What is my bucket for?” He shared that lasting financial freedom is found not in holding tighter to our resources but in learning to sow generously, give joyfully, and live trustingly. When we do this, God fills and overflows our lives for His glory. This rhythm of generosity and trust is what leads to true financial freedom that lasts.
