Passage: Acts 3:1-10
Pastor Damian introduces the second part of the "Rise" journey, focusing on the Book of Acts. He explains that the New Testament begins with the Gospels, which document Jesus' life, ministry, death, and resurrection, followed by Acts, a book full of action and significant events. In the first section of our study, we explored being empowered by the Holy Spirit, emphasizing Jesus' departure and the coming of the Holy Spirit. Jesus had prepared His disciples for His departure, assuring them that the Holy Spirit, the Helper, would come to guide and empower them. Acts chapter one describes Jesus' ascension, and Acts chapter two details the Holy Spirit's arrival on the Day of Pentecost, which led to the birth of the early church. Peter then delivers a powerful sermon, leading thousands to faith in Jesus. The journey now shifts to Acts chapter three, focusing on "Transforming Our City," where miracles in Jesus' name bring lasting change. Pastor Damian highlights the story of a lame man healed by Peter and John, urging the congregation to see the event from the man's perspective rather than just the apostles'. This miracle sparks awe and amazement, demonstrating the ongoing power of Jesus' name.
