When False Gods Fall: How Jesus Reshapes a City - and a Soul

Series: Rise

November 23, 2025 | Nick Steinloski

Passage: Acts

Pastor Nick continues the Rise series in Acts 19, picking up Paul’s story in Ephesus from verse 8 through 41. He reminds the listeners that while modern cities like Everett, Lynnwood, Snohomish, or Seattle may not contain literal idols or statues, everyone still worships something. These modern idols often take the form of success, escapism, image, control, or certainty—things that subtly shape our priorities and identities. Nick explains that these forces operate like gods, demanding our energy and defining how we see ourselves. This makes Acts 19 especially relevant, because just as Paul entered a spiritually crowded city, we also live among many unseen idols. Whenever Jesus enters a city, home, or heart, false gods begin to fall. Nick invites the congregation to step into the text with him to see three observations and three truths from Paul’s experience in Ephesus. He closes by praying for openness to the Holy Spirit, asking God to reveal idols, reshape hearts, and help His people see their city the way Jesus does.
